"The One"

Julietisbleeding, in my mind there is definitely more than one "one". Sure, you've got to kiss lots of frogs before you find them (or, in adult, non-fairytale terms, shag a lot of retards)...

I'd also like to argue against your point about needing someone that lets you accept yourself. Surely that is just "settling"? There are plenty of people out there who will like you for you. God knows how, I have met a fair few people who were willing to like me for me! However, I didn't like them for them...

I liked the fact that everything I said was gospel and that they hung on my every word, but they were merely silent audiences who laughed at whatever I said and thought I was angelic even when I confessed my deepest and darkest, because that was what they wanted to believe.

At the end of the day, we've all used, we've all abused, we've all been used and abused (do I hear an Annie Lennox song coming on?!). We're all players in this game, otherwise there would be no game to play. And that's why it's all so interesting.

It's natural to look back in hindsight and wonder why you threw away something seemingly so perfect, as you just have. However, I think everyone has a tendency to see things through rose-tinted spectacles. Remind yourself of the reasons you broke up with her. I doubt it was only those flashing lights drawing you into the realm of whoredom and widespread emotional bonding.

The past is there to be laughed at. Just think when we're old we can all tell stories about our 'wayward youth' and the terrible things we got up to. In the never forgotten words of one of my much beloved friends: "At least we'll have something to tell the kids!"

I suppose the question is, will the kids actually want to know?!

Oh, totally agreed. There are plenty of people that will like you for you, all that fakery - but I mean: To find someone that you like for who they are, and find they also like you for who you are - a true soul mates situation - is difficult.

Almost every relationship is compromise, in fact some people think that's the whole point. I used to think so too, but now I'm not so sure...

Or maybe I'm just dreaming that love is a truly beautiful thing, when really speaking we all know it's a cunt.
