Ecchymosis

Having a crush and acting on it is like when you're rocking steady, the sound of an electric guitar ringing throughout your entire body. In a moment of sheer courage you climb up onto the stage and dive back into the mosh pit, hoping you'll dove tail into a crowd surf.

If the crowd is with you, you spread eagle and surf! And you're in love.

How great is the love? On the one hand you have been uplifted (pun intended) and it's bliss. On the other, you're getting your limbs pulled out of their sockets and the occasional elbow in the groin. And at some point the crowd loses its density and you fall on your head, after which a big girl named Bertha tramples over you with her reinforced square base heels.

Does love suck? Sure, it always has its errant elbows. But the elbows feel far worse if we started out at a concert with a band and a crowd that we really didn't like so much in the first place. So stop complaining about your bruises and start choosing your gigs more carefully. (And preferably choose one that Bertha isn't going to.)

Analogies are always good, and I actually quite like this one. It makes everything seem so straightforward and uncuntish.

But basically, what you are saying, is "of course you're going to get hurt, unless you're with the right person", which is all well and good in written theory, but a lot harder to effect in a socio-physical reality.

I think you'll find that even the most carefully chosen gigs will turn out to be cunt-ridden cacophonies.
