And so they lived happily ever after...
Have you ever wondered what happens after the love story? Call me a cynic if you like, but I'm not buying into 'happily ever after'.
The majority of films even in this jaded day and age have a happy ending.
Take a snippet of your life, the happiest moment you had when you were completely in love. When things worked out with you and your partner, and you were swimming in a beautiful sea of romance, flowers and all that mushy stuff. When all your dreams came true.
What happened next?
See, a movie would end at that point, with the two of you floating away in the sunset to share lifelong united bliss. If you either follow or contribute to this site, I'm guessing that wasn't the ending you got. If it was... you're a cunt.
What I want to see is the fucked-up shit that goes on afterwards; where one of the parties involved in the love story realises that in fact their partner isn't all they thought they would be, and the other drowns in a festering pool of worthlessness and contemplates suicide.
Not asking for something downright sadistic that makes everyone lose the will to live - just a true depiction of life's peaks and troughs.
A story can end on a high note (like a wedding) or a low one (a funeral), or it can just sort of dribble away. Call it a matter of taste.
I remember hearing of a version of "Cinderella" in which Ella, as an aged dowager queen, widowed for years, looks through her wedding album to remember that happy time. A happy ending or not?
Yes Illegible, if you want to see some more realistic depictions of life, you need to stop going to the local Odeon and broaden your spectrum of media input.
Additional: Such minority movies do exist though. See my post above.
